Food & Drink That You Should Never Skip in Philadelphia

Traveling isn't easy when you're visiting a new city and have a palate created by BurgaBox. Everyone is screaming "pick me" on Instagram and Yelp but it can be hard to tell which places are actually worth the stop. That's where we come in. Our weekly post, "24 Hours in the City" will help you filter out the phonies and conquer each city with a full stomach and a slight buzz. Because that's the only way we know how to travel.

This week, we are breaking down one of the most famous food cities in the country. And don't worry, we are bringing you more than just a cheesesteak. Join us in eating our way through Philly, one carb and one beer at a time.

Breakfast: The sweetest part of the day

Green Eggs Cafe: Look up "Green Eggs Cafe" and I dare you to find a review or an Instagram that doesn't mention the Red Velvet Pancakes. Whether that person is #basic or not, there are not many people that can eat a stack of Red Velvet, Pancakes and keep quiet about it. And as a pre-warning, make sure to bring that cash money because that's the only way you're paying for this breakFEAST.

Federal Donuts: AKA the place that you can get donuts, fried chicken or both on the same sandwich. Here's the consensus: the Strawberry Lavender Donuts and the Lemon Meringue will do all sorts of good things for your happiness. If you're in it for the Fried Chicken, The Za'tar Spice and the honey donut are the perfect pair. And don't be lazy about it. Post up early, and get your day started with the best sugar rush you'll have all weekend.

Lunch: Scratch what I said earlier, we are bringing you a cheesesteak, and we've found the best one.

Pat's King of Steaks: Pat's or Geno's? This will probably be the first question you'll type into Google before traveling to Philly in hopes that it will make the decision for you. Nope, it won't. Well, I'm here to relieve that stress for you. Go to Pat's, every single time. Looking to order like a local (you don't really have a choice)? Step one. Wit (yes to onions) or witout (no onions). No, that's not a typo. Next state your cheese selection (Specify Plain, Cheez Whiz, Provolone, American or Pizza Steak). And get ready to pay...with cash...right away.

If cheesesteaks aren't your thing, it's time to get serious about the snacks.

Chickie’s and Pete’s: Bathed in creamy, cheesy, crabby sauce, Chickie's and Pete's Crabfries ® will make you immediately question why you ever ate a potato any other way. Interestingly enough, while there is no actual crab meat on the fries, I promise, you wont G.A.F.

Next, take a 15 minute drive (come on, have some dedication to your food), and stop by Khyber Pass Pub and order a big bag of Benton's Bacon Greased Popcorn. This is not like the movie theater popcorn where the end of the bag sucks because you didn't properly layer the butter. Khyber puts the popcorn game on it's shoulders and makes sure that every kernel is perfectly coated with the goods. AKA bacon grease.

Mid Day Drinking: Now that you have all the grease lining your stomach, it's time to put it to good use and soak up some beer.

Frankford Hall: Biergartens are always the answer to day drinking, because no matter what, you know that there will be a huge a** pretzel and a ton of beer waiting for you. At Frankford Hall, expect a wide open space with unlimited opportunities to keep your crowd going. Whether you're there to socialize, hustle a few games of Jenga and ping pong or just stuff your face with beer and food, Franford Hall has your back.

Dinner: Settle down that buzz with these unforgettable options.

Sampan: Sampan is a popular modern Asian restaurant that has all the Millennials going crazy. I was yelled at via the internet (in the best way) by a Yelper to get the Crab Ragoons. "Crab Rangoon (FIRE!!! FLAME! C'est Bon! Whatever I need to say to get the point across that this is bomb. 5 star by itself. Best I've ever had. If you ignore everything I have to say don't ignore this." I'm taking this review very seriously, and you should too. Order them. The other must-try items include the Edamame Dumplings, Korean BBQ Beef Crispy and Hot Chicken Bao Bun. Add on a side of the Brussel Sprouts and the Kim Chee Fried Rice and you should be in the food coma you'd expected from Philly.

Not feeling it? Try this Mediterranean hot spot...

Barbuzzo: I'll break it down real quick. Start with the Whipped Ricotta because, cheese & bread. For entrees, share the Uovo Pizza (topped with brussel leaves, 1732 guanciale, secret white sauce, parmesan, fior di latte, truffled farm egg) and the Pan Seared Gnocchi. End with the Carmel Blandino. Boom! It's time to go out.

Nightlife: 10,000 calories consumed in a day calls for some dancing, and dancing always needs a little help from our friend, alcohol. Here's where to start and end your night.

Conveniently attached to Sampan, Graffiti Bar will serve as the perfect, hip spot to bring you to the point of wanting to endlessly sing throwback 90's music (and maybe a little Justin Bieber). Get a Fishbowl or two and you'll be ready way sooner than you thought. And that's when you move onto Fado. Fado Irish Pub is where you go for late night shenanigans. The DJ will have you saying "OMG I LOVE THIS SONG" to your BFF time and time again. Let loose, dance and burn off those calories so you can squeeze in a last late night snack.

Late Night Food:

Open until 3am on the weekends, Shoo Fry should be your last stop of the night. From classic poutine to PB&J fries, I'm confident that you will find the munchies that your intoxicated self is desiring in the moment.

While you're starting to reignite that food coma you once felt a few hours ago, BurgaBox hopes that you will leave Philly, with a full heart and slightly larger pants size, because that's what traveling is all about.

Let us know if you end up visiting (or have visited) these places and how you liked them!

Look out for us next week in our next "24 Hours in the City" and conquer another city, one day at a time.
